Washing machines are household appliances that vibrate and emit noise during their operation. The machine washing drum is driven through an electric motor and the highest noise levels are observed in the spinning process. This work was developed with the objective of identifying the main paths of vibroacoustic energy propagation in a front-load household washing machine through experimental procedures. Faced with noise problems reported for certain rotational speed ranges of the spinning process, the vibroacoustic analysis from machine is performed with aid of arder analysis tracking, allowing straight conclusions regarding the operational condition that result in noise levels increasing. In this sense, the contribution of the noise sources of a typical washing machine for different rotational speeds of the electric motor is analyzed experimentally. Based on the analysis of the obtained results the authors have confirmed the preliminary hypothesis that the electric motor is the main source of noise in the washing machine. This work also indicates that significant reductions in global radiated noise levels could be achieved by improving the acoustic insulation of the machine’s cabinet.
